They’ll take you on a pleasant journey along the Mekong in Laos tours

The 4,000 islands are also one of the few places in the world where you can seeIrrawaddy dolphins. These friendly-looking and peaceful creatures are unfortunately an endangered species, with only 9,000 or so remaining. Don Khon is the best base from which to set off and see them. You’ll see plenty of places along the south and southeast coasts of the island from which you’ll be able to hire a private boat from a local.

They’ll take you on a pleasant journey along the Mekong in Laos tours, allowing you to appreciate your surroundings and giving you time to comprehend Si Phan Don’s epic scale. You’ll then arrive at an area, usually near the Cambodian border, which the dolphins like to call home. The captain of your boat will drop anchor, and you’ll get half an hour or more to sit and watch the dolphins play. It’s a peaceful, meditative experience. It’s very quiet out there on the water, with the sounds of the surfacing dolphins and the water lapping against your boat likely the only noises you’ll hear.

These are some of the most popular activities to do on the 4,000 Islands, but, in truth, the best part is simply being there. There’s a laid-back feel to the whole area which is infectious, and you’ll find yourself instinctively more relaxed than you have been in a long time. It’s certainly worth taking a bicycle out and exploring the islands, but you’ll also want plenty of time simply to sit in a hammock outside your room, swing back and forth, and watch the river flow gently by.

Don’t simply visit the main tourist destinations in the north of Laos and head straight to Cambodia or Thailand,or vice versa. Make that little extra effort, and find a private tour which includes the 4,000 Islands. You’ll rediscover the meaning of relaxation, and be completely refreshed and eager to keep exploring the delights of the amazing region that is Southeast Asia Tours.
